Susan Akers from Ball State asked that we share this with PALNI librarians:
On Wed., April 11, 2007, the Ball State University Libraries will sponsor a one-day seminar, “Digital Trek: To boldly explore copyright in teaching and learning"
Today’s library and information professionals must know how to properly use another person’s intellectual property. Learn more about the TEACH Act, Fair Use, library copying, and participate in a case study via small group. We'll have time for questions with a panel of experts and more. By attending this conference, you will hear from nationally-known experts in the field. Registration by Feb. 14 is $65 (a sweetheart of a deal!), then increases to $80 per person. After April 1, the cost is $125. IHETS members' fee is $65 before Feb. 14, then increases to $80.

On Tuesday, May 9, PALNI hosted Jenn Riley from Indiana University as she presented "Applying Digital Library Metadata Standards". Ms. Riley is the Metadata Librarian from the Digital Library Program at IU and has given many useful presentations on metadata standards around the state. Her presentation was given at the INCOLSA offices in Indianapolis, and simulcast to two locations in Nappanee and Charlestown.

Ms. Riley skillfully explained how traditional catloging techniques can be transferred to new digital metadata standards, the importance of choosing the proper metadata scheme, and the importance of composing metadata for general consumption. By all accounts the presentation was a great success!

Handouts from Tuesday's presentation can be found here.
