These classes are presented with new hires or new job responsibilities in mind. However, the classes are usually small enough that they can be tailored to those in attendance. If only one person registers for a class, it can be treated as a lab day with staff and a room already scheduled. If there is need for a lab day for Cataloging, Acquisitions or Serials and the scheduled classes are not convenient, please contact Colleen Gocken at colleen@palni.edu to schedule a different session.

If you are a member of the popular social networking site Facebook, then you are most likely familiar with "Groups". Groups allow members to collaborate and discuss common interests and issues.  Librarians are doing all kinds of cool things on Facebook and there are tons of groups about most aspects of our profession.  

 There is now a group for PALNI supported institutions titled "PALNI Librarians".  It can be a place to find other librarians who work at member institutions, and even a place for Faculty, staff, or students to contribute to discussions about libraries within PALNI.  It is an open group, so invite whomever you think might be interested. Most of all, just have some fun there.

 Facebook requires an account to view and participate.  If you are logged in you can join the group here.

I will be extracting the bibliographic records to send to LTI for authority processing starting at 5am on Saturday morning. I hope to complete the project early on Sunday afternoon.

Please do not edit, overlay or delete any bibliographic records this weekend. You may continue with circulation, ordering and receiving items, arriving serials, adding holdings and items to current bibliographic records this weekend.

I will send a message to the lists when I have completed all of the processing.

PALNI libraries who are connected to the Internet via the I-Light state-wide backbone experienced problems this morning, April 4, with connecting to the PALNI systems. I-Light network staff updated router configurations last night that caused the access problems. Staff contacted INDNet and I-Light support staff early this morning when the problem was first reported, and the problem was fixed at about 10:15am. Access to the PALNI systems should now be working normally again.

Only libraries connected via the I-Light backbone were affected, and the PALNI systems were all online throughout these problems. Libraries and users who connect to PALNI through other service providers did not experience any problems.

INCOLSA was awarded the 2007 WebFeat President's Award for Innovation for its INSPIRE Services. Margaret Mohundro, INCOLSA's Director of INSPIRE, received the award at the January, 2007 ALA Mid-Winter Meeting in Seattle.

INCOLSA uses WebFeat to implement web-based federated searching of the INSPIRE databases. The PALNI OPAC is included among the more than 40 online databases that can be searched in parallel through the INSPIRESearch web interface.

Here is the email that was distributed this afternoon, 12/22, on some of the Ex Libris listserv's about the acquisition of Endeavor Informations Systems by Francisco Partners, and the merger of Endeavor and Ex Libris. An FAQ document with more details is also attached (click on the attachment link at the bottom of the article).

At about 9:20am on October 25, the PALNI and INCOLSA offices experienced an area-wide power outage. The PALNI/INCOLSA/INSPIRE computer room and servers all switched over to emergency generator power automatically, and users of the PALNI systems did not experience any interruption in service.

Power was restored to the building at about 11:15am, and normal staff operations are now returning to normal.

We have made a small enhancement to the PALNI Web Site that you may find useful. Note that the right-hand column of the Web Site front page now includes an "Coming Events" block. This block will include a summary of events from the PALNI Events Calendar that are scheduled either for the current week or for the coming week. To display full event information, just click on an event description.

Any PALNI library staff member may submit events to be included in the Events Calendar. Just click on the link to the full Events Calendar in the left-hand MAIN MENU, and select 'Events->Add New Event' from the top menu bar. Please note that there may be a delay of up to 24 hours before a newly submitted event actually shows up in the PALNI Calendar.
